LGBTIQA+ Mental Health Issues

Although many LGBTIQA+ Australians live healthy and happy lives, research has shown that a disproportionate number experience poorer mental health outcomes and have higher risk of suicidal behaviours than their peers.

These health outcomes are directly related to experiences of stigma, prejudice, discrimination and abuse on the basis of being LGBTIQA+.

The Newosis team is determined to address specific concerns from the community in respect to mental health and/or neurological issues, whether that be through the commissioning or carrying out of new research, providing individual or group guidance and support, undertaking education or social media campaigns - and always standing in solidarity with you.

Much of our team and support network come from the LGBTIQA+ community and have had to deal with the same realities, and therefore we are able to provide compassion, empathy, and benevolence, from the 'lived experience' perspective - core to our purposes.

The 2021 Snapshot of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Statistics for LGBTIQA+ People provides a snapshot of what is known of the current mental health and wellbeing outcomes of LGBTIQA+ people in Australia.
